The Singers' Circle

2:00 p.m. - The Singers' Circle The Singers' Circle welcomes Glorietta to the studio this month! Quickly emerging onto the Connecticut acoustic/indie scene, teens Josh Kellogg and Nick Camillo – the members of Glorietta – hope to extend their musical talents across the country. Combining the soft, easy singing style of “Daphne Loves Derby,” the raspy vocals of “Sunny Day Real Estate” and “Straylight Run,” and the simple-yet-melodic guitar lines of “Death Cab for Cutie,” the duo definitely creates a stylistic musical mixture! Glorietta is currently working on their first studio release. Technorati tags: , , , , ,

Monday, December 25 2-6 AM Chester's Blanket Fort: Best Of 2006 Special It's my last show of the year, so following a brief xmas set (it's the law, I have to play "Christmas At Ground Zero") I'll be playing as much of my favorite music of the year as I can fit in a little less than 4 hours. Assuming you don't have to work that day, stay up and listen, it'll be worth it, if you're into leftfield disco, dubstep, spazzy cutup music made on computers, and other things that only people who spend too much time on the internet listen to. Who Stole Christmas?

Sunday, 10 PM, December 17, 2006 Does Christmas leave you stressed out and overextended? Is this a symptom of an American lifestyle that is long on consumption and short on joy? You'll want to listen to our guest - best selling author and environmentalist Bill McKibben. Leading off with a discussion of his book, Hundred Dollar Holiday - The Case for a More Joyful Christmas, Mr. McKibben will recount how Christmas became a shopping frenzied season. From there, he will explore the larger issues of materialism and environmental sustainability. He will takes us on a journey to communities in foreign countries that have learned to "live lightly on the earth" - people who have achieved a high quality of life with much less wealth than Americans. Mr.McKibben's many books include the classic End of Nature, the first book on global warming for the general audience. It has been translated into 20 languages and an updated edition was published this year. Technorati tags: , , ,

Bill Cosentino - Organic Radio 10:00 p.m. Eric Lichter independent recording artist, producer, and owner of Dirt Floor Studios here in CT. Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Eric Lichter began his solo career with the release of 2002's Palm Wine Sunday Blue, but his musical career began almost two decades before. The formally Seattle-based, CT native, Lichter first recorded as the drummer in the Life, a neo-psychedelic band of the mid to late '80s who released an album, 1987's Alone, and a single, 1990's "Do It Again"/"Broken Man," on the local Green Monkey Records before splitting in the early '90s. When Life's former labelmates the Green Pajamas reunited in 1993, Lichter joined the group as keyboardist and secondary guitarist, replacing original member Steve Lawrence. After a four-year string of compilation appearances and occasional singles, the Green Pajamas released their first full album in over seven years, 1997's Strung Behind the Sun. Lichter contributed three songs to the album, a quota that continued on 1998's All Clues Lead to Megan's Bed, 2000's Seven Fathoms Down and Falling, and 2001's The Caroler's Song. Self-recorded over a period of a few years. Lichter's solo debut, Palm Wine Sunday Blue, was finally released in May 2002. Eric Lichter embodies what the term "A.M. Gold" USED to be...Really ... melodic with tight craftsmanship, and maybe just a little cheesy, but in that really awesome way!...His second album "Chorduroy," released in 2004, mined the 70's 'Cosmic Cowboy' singer/songwriter territory, and his third, as yet unreleased will be anyone's guess. Eric is also the owner(along with his brother Jeremy and wife Sandra) of Dirt Floor Studios, in Chester Ct. 10:45 p.m. Rod Washburn - local independent singer-song writer, lap-steel player has been playing throughout CT for many years. Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rod Washburn has evolved over the years through many styles of music from hard rock and metal in the 80's to alternative in the 90's to Jam band Rock & Roll in the late 90's and after departing Jonny Law decided to pursue a new direction as a solo performer doing more country and roots music featuring lap steel guitar; he has just released Songs for a Sunday Morning which he co-produced with Eric Lichter at Dirt Floor Studios. 11:30 p.m. Rolla - local independent artists, who have become regulars on Organic Radio. Rolla has arrived safely and is currently residing in Connecticut , USA, Earth. The team, founded by guitarist/vocalist Fuzz (Deep Banana Blackout, Tom Tom Club) and guitarist/vocalist Carrie, was sparked by a spur-of-the-moment collaboration that delighted the fans who were in attendance to see Fuzz perform an acoustic set supporting Dickey Betts (Allman Brothers Band). Fuzz and Carrie were so sure their mission had a purpose now, they decided to record and tour as an acoustic duo bringing them together with acts such as Blues Traveler and Indigenous. After a year of performing and writing, they recruited upright/ electric bassist David Shuman (The Lillys) and drummer Marc Balling, to form Rolla. David, Marc and Fuzz worked previously on their jazz release, B'gocK! which is why Fuzz saw it fitting to include these musicians to complete the sound Carrie and he were looking for. The result was Rolla - a combination of Fuzz and Carrie's introspective lyrics and unpredictable h! armonies with the organic textures of a jazz rhythm section that just wants to play rock and roll (don't they all). Rolla is currently touring to support the release of their brand new EP, "Fits and Starts" which follows close on the heals of their debut album, "La La Land". The release party will be this coming Friday, December 8th at the Acoustic Cafe in Bridgeport, CT. Technorati tags: , , , , ,

The Space is located at 295 Treadwell St., Building H, Hamden, CT Phone: 203.288.6400 Doors open at 7 PM Admission is $10 to benefit WPKN/M
About the performers: A blues and folk artist from Stratford, CT, MELISSA MULLIGAN began her love affair with performing at the young age of nine. Most recently she was voted "Best Singer-Songwriter" in the Fairfield Weekly's annual reader's poll. Tonight, she will be performing with BILL BLUE. SUZANNE VICK has been honing her vocal and songwriting skills for as long as she can remember. Also from Stratford, GLORIETTA is finding their way onto the Connecticut acoustic indie radar. DYLAN CONNOR is a singer-songwriter in the tradition of Elvis Costello, Elliot Smith and Jeff Buckley. A pop troubadour with an adept sense of melody and engaging lyrical style, Connor embraces the notion of Rock 'n Roll as a grass roots art and pursues his passion with fervor & conviction. BILL CARLTON "has spent the last decade impressing audiences all over the Northeast. Influenced by Shawn Colvin, similar to John Mayer, and evoking Dave Matthews in his shows, Bill remains brilliantly unique". Representing New Haven, singe-songwriter MIKE THOMPSON has been in the music scene for over ten years. "Those who come to see Mike perform will leave remembering his honest lyrics that no doubt speak the truth". Technorati tags: , , , , ,
