From Friday, Sept. 11 through Sunday, September 13, CT Folk
is sponsoring its annual Connecticut Folk Festival and environmental programming. Green Works: Connecticut's Free Green Job and Career Development Fair & Symposium will be held from noon to 4:00pm at the Adanti Student Center on the campus of SCSU. The Green Expo is on Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. at Edgerton Park on the Hamden/New Haven line off Whitney Avenue. It will feature dozens of booths offering information about cost savings through going green; and programs and activities that connect people with currently available “living green” products, businesses, services and resources.

Also on Saturday, Sept. 12, the folk festival is offering a new and exciting option – the Tour des Farms, a leisurely bike ride to local farms, greenhouses, orchards, and other agricultural treasures in the region. At each stop along the road a Conn. musician will perform. Two routes are offered: a leader-led flat 25-mile “family friendly” ride and a more challenging self-led 35-mile ride for the avid cyclist. Both routes begin at 7:45 a.m. at Edgerton Park on the New Haven/Hamden town line, and end at the park as well. All proceeds of the Tour des Farms will go toward CT Folk’s educational and family programming.

On Sunday, Sept. 13, DESK – the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen – will hold its fourth annual Ride To End Hunger – sponsored again by the Benevolent and Protective Society of Elks, New Haven Lodge #25. 


Traditionally, the Ride to End Hunger has been a motorcycle ride to raise money for DESK, but this year DESK is also offering a “green” 10-mile bicycles-only leg of the ride. Both rides will start at 11 a.m. from Sports Haven, 600 Long Wharf Drive and end with a BBQ lunch at B.P.O.E. Lodge #25, where there will be music, raffles and a cash bar.
