10:00 AM Melissa Pasanen is our first guest and co-author with Rick Gencarelli of “Cooking with Shelburne Farms:Food and Stories from Vermont.” Shelburne Farms is a 1,400 acre non-profit environmental education center and a working farm. Ms. Pasanen is chief food and restaurant correspondent for “The Burlington Free Press.”
10:20AM Guest Rudolph Chelminski talks about his new book called “I’ll Drink To That: Beaujolais and the French Peasant Who Made It the World’s Most Popular Wine.” Originally from Connecticut Chelminski now lives in France where he writes about food and wine for various US national magazines like “People” and the “Atlantic Monthly.”
10:40AM Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crosson are the authors of “The First Christmas” and guest Dom Crosson returns to SSM to discuss the historical significance of the Jesus narrative.
11:00AM Chris Knowles has investigated the esoteric roots of the classic comic book stories and recently authored “Our Gods Wear Spandex: The Secret History of Comic Book Heroes.” In this segment Chris Knowles talks about some of the most surprising origins of our favorite caped heroes.
11:20AM Postponed from last month, Richard Heinberg discusses his new book “Peak Everything: Waking Up to the Century of Decline.” Heinberg again offers readers many proposals to help the international community deal with the future reality of energy shortages and the worldwide environmental crisis.
11:40AM Guest Mark Shapiro author of “Exposed: The Toxic Chemistry of Everyday Products” is the editorial director of the Center for Investigative Reporting in San Francisco. Shapiro reports on how the European Union market is changing the way it does business with US manufacturers mostly because of concerns that some US exports contain hazardous chemicals.
12 Noon Guest Janice Ross has put together a photography, text and DVD presentation called “The San Francisco Ballet at Seventy Five.” Dance scholar Ross will discuss the company’s humble beginnings to the present where it is placed in the top tier of the best in the world.
12: 20PM “The House that Love Built: The Story of Millard & Lnda Fuller the Founders of Habitat for the Humanity” was written by Dr. Bettie B. Youngs. Dr. Youngs and Millard Fuller are on hand to discuss the origin of the international movement to create a deceit place to live for everyone.
12: 40PM Autumn de Wilde’s book "Elliot Smith" features her photography of the edgy singer-songwriter. The book has interviews and conversations with friends and family. Smith died from apparent suicide in 2003. The book also includes a CD with five rare live performances.
1:00PM Guest Nnedi Okorafor-Mbachu discusses her second young adult science fiction novel “The Shadow Speaker.” Set in West Niger’s future, it is a story of a society where patriarchy and environmental catastrophe have crushed the aspirations of its people.
1:30PM The Mac Attack is an online podcast hosted by Steve Stanger. This months topics include podcasting and the release of Apple's new Leopard operating system.
