On Wed March 23, from 5:30pm – 7:00pm, there'll be a Public Hearing on the Cost of the Military Budget to New Haven at the Wilbur Cross High School library, 181 Mitchell Drive, New Haven, sponsored by the New Haven Peace Commission. It's free and the public is invited. The hearing will show the impact of the federal budget on the city. Chris Hellman of the National Priorities Project will speak about how the money spent on wars and weapons could better be utilized. On Wed March 23, from 7:00pm – 8:30pm, the Branford Land Trust presents a lecture, SNAKES OF NEW ENGLAND, at Blackstone Library, Main St. at Cedar St., Branford. Linda Krulikowski, author of Snakes of New England, will give a slide presentation and share her decades of knowledge and passion for snakes. This is a wonderful program for people of all ages. The week of March 21-25, the CT Council on Occupational Safety and Health Exhibit on injured workers will be up in Legislative Office Building in Hartford, First Floor Atrium. It commemorates the 100th anniversary of the fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in NYC that killed 146 girls and young women between the ages of 13 and 23 years old. A ceremony on March 25 at 4:30 p.m. includes a HartBeat Theater Ensemble performance and awards for high school essay contest winners to raise awareness of workplace health issues. On Friday, March 25, there'll be a free orientation to the Transition Training that will take place over the weekend. It will preview the Triple Challenge of Peak Oil, climate instability, and economic deterioration in ways that move people to positive action, and help people discover imaginative and rewarding ways to work with obstacles that have prevented our communities from recognizing and responding to these challenges.
