Dave Mudcat Saunders. Jarding will discuss their book subtitled "How the Republicans Stole the South and the Heartland and What the Democrats Must do to Run em Out." From the NASCAR grandstands, Jarding and Saunders have not only written a roadmap to recovery for progressive dems, but have exposed the Republican and Neocon hypocrisy on the issues that matter to rural America. Jarding and Saunders put progressive Democrats back on the map in the south when they helped Mark Warner take the Virginia governor ship in 2001.

David Horowitz and his bizarre attack on higher education. He will talk about his March 13th article "
He's Got a Little List." Lingeman writes:
"One of his [Horowitz] pet projects is a so-called Academic Bill of Rights, which he is agitating for states to enact into law (no takers yet). His avowed aim is to muzzle lefty professors, who, Horowitz claims, are running amok--dominating faculties, bullying conservative students and promoting their radical agendas in the classroom. Colleges that fail to sign on to the bill of rights would be monitored by state officials and politicians."

Octavia Butler was 58 years old and she succumbed to a stroke. Bob Johnson will host a panel/tandem discussion via phone with several prominent authors starting at 12:30PM on Saturday, April 8th."Butler was a towering figure in life and in her art and the world noticed; highly acclaimed by reviewers, she received numerous awards, including a MacArthur 'genius' grant" Aside from winning both the Hugo and Nebula awards, she won the Langston Hughes Medal, as well as a PEN Lifetime Achievement award. Her 1979 book "Kindred" is required reading in many colleges and universities.

- Dr. Jan M. Bogstad from the Women's Studies Department at U. of Wisconsin.
- Nnedi Okorafor-Mbachu, Zahrah the Windseeker, will discuss how Octavia has inspired her writing and the personal significance of "Wild Seed."
