Interview with the Horsefly and all things word

8:00 p.m Valerie Richardson wil be speaking about all things word with Joshua Kendall, author of "The Man Who Made Lists: Love, Death, Madness, and the Creation of Roget's Thesaurus." Peter Roget (1779-1869) was a prominent physician and scientist who came of age just before Charles Darwin and at a time when man believed that knowledge could best be understood by being quantified and classified. His love of lists and words started when he was a child, and in later life he found respite in his work on the thesaurus from the depression and madness that had plagued other members in his family. 9:00 p.m. Valerie and Rod will welcome (by phone) Judy Hyman, fiddle-player extraordinaire and long-time member of The Horseflies, an Ithaca-based group whose percussive music takes the feel of the darkest songs from Appalachia and mixes it with a punk sensibility to make what they call "Neoprimitive bug music." The group has just released their first album in many years "Until the Ocean," and they will be performing at Falcon Ridge and other area festivals this summer. Technorati tags: ,
