Tonight on Counterpoint

8:00 p.m. - Counterpoint, hosted by Scott Harris
  • Hina Shamsi, ACLU staff attorney, assesses the legitimacy of the recent military commission trial of Salim Ahmed Hamdan, found guilty of providing material support for terrorism through his work as a driver for Osama bin Laden - but rejecting the government's argument that the Yemeni had intended to aid terrorist attacks by providing his services.
  • Andy Sauer, executive director of Common Cause Connecticut, discusses upcoming primary elections that for the first time are being run under the state law establishing a voluntary public campaign financing system for state officeholders. Only 10 of 225 candidates have indicated that they will not be using public financing funds.
  • Pavel Podvig, online columnist and member of the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists - and research associate at Stanford University's Center for International Security and Cooperation, talks about nuclear proliferation issues in this year's presidential campaign.
  • Dave Lindorff, co-author of the book, "The Case for Impeachment," examines claims in Ron Suskind’s new book, "The Way of the World," that the White House ordered the CIA to forge a back-dated, handwritten letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam Hussein designed to portray a false link between Hussein’s regime and al Qaeda as a justification for the Iraq war.
