Waiting for the Silence to Break

WPKN continues to be unable to broadcast due to difficulties at our tower site. We are awaiting delivery and installation of a new transmission cable. It is expected that we will have that installed on Friday, giving us the possibility of going back on the air Friday evening. However, this is just an estimate and unforeseen factors could affect this prediction. Updates will be posted here as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

WPKN references in the blogosphere

Tony Baloney (Agooart) will be on Bill Cosentino's show Tuesday night, and gives us a mention.
WPKN is always a fun time to hang out and there are so many unexspexted surprises there as well. Call in fans. One guy who liked my art came by the station and brought us free food from his restaurant!
Kermit at The Phone Company mentions us in this rant about Good-Radio Free Europe.
The kids here are left to find music all on their own. They get absolutely no help from the outside world. They must rely on networks of friends, magazines, and internet radio. They will never have the luck of being introduced to "The Residents" from WPKN at 2:00 AM while working the night shift at a Shell station.

What's new on here? Syndication!

WPKN Today now offers two more ways to receive the latest programming information from your favorite radio station. The Add to My Yahoo! button will allow you to add program listings to your My Yahoo! page. The AvantGo button will let you add our feed to your handheld device. The most current program listings are now literally at arm's length. Don't forget to hit the pretty green Support WPKN link. It's listeners like you who keep us independent and on the air.

Live from Where? presents the Afro-Semitic Experience

Live from... Where?, WPKN radio's monthly live concert broadcast series presents The Afro-Semitic Experience Live in Studio 207 at the University Of Bridgeport Student Center Wednesday, December 21, 2005, 8 PM sharp! Presented before a studio audience and broadcast live on the air. Everyone is invited to attend. We ask for a goodwill donation in any amount, and no one will be turned away unless the house is full. We request that reservations be made in advance by calling WPKN during regular business hours at 203 331 9756. Only 30 seats are available for the show, so it is essential to make reservations early. The Afro-Semitic Experience is a cross-cultural band that delivers a positive and meaningful musical message about Black-Jewish relations. The Afro-Semitic Experience is an ensemble dedicated to preserving, promoting and expanding the rich cultural and musical heritage of the Jewish and African diaspora. Imagine a band that understands and can present interpretations of music from traditions as rich as Gospel, Klezmer, Nigunim, Spirituals, and Swing and you have the Afro-Semitic Experience. This is a group that is as comfortable playing a freylakh as they are swinging a blues, that knows how to play either a bulgar or some funk. Multi-cultural soul. Says band leader David Chevan, "Through our concerts, recordings and workshops, we are actively creating an artistic response to anti-Semitism and racism of all forms. This is our ongoing mission and it is of central importance to us."

Spread the word to the East!

Sure, you know us. Maybe we're a recent discovery, or maybe you used to have some horrendous coat-hanger antenna contraption to pull in our distant signal. Well, now we are loud and clear on our Montauk frequency. Guess what? Your neighbors don't know about us. We have some nifty postcards that we want to distribute to spread the word. That's where you come in. We are looking for people to help distribute our cards to eastern Long Island and Connecticut. If you know of a place in your community that will let you place a stack of our cards on their counter, please e-mail us at our special address: wpknpress-postcard@yahoo.com. Your neighbors will appreciate you, and us.
