Norman Corwin radio plays

4:00 p.m. This Tuesday, January 16th at 4:00 p.m. WPKN in Bridgeport CT at 89.5FM and WPKM in Montauk NY at 88.7FM commence a series of broadcasts of classic radio plays by the legendary Norman Corwin. Norman Corwin is regarded as the Grand Master of American radio drama. In the 1940s he was one of the best-known personalities in America. His brilliant programs drew radio audiences of as many as sixty million people. Many of them were written, cast, rehearsed, produced, and performed live within a single week’s time. They often featured performances by some of the greatest stars of the era. WPKN and WPKM’s broadcasts of Norman Corwin’s plays will take place on the third Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m., within Jeff Wignall’s shift. The inaugural broadcast of the series will be “The Odyssey of Runyon Jones”, a delightful fantasy about a small boy searching for his dog, Pootzy, who has been run over by a car. He works his way through the great bureaucracies of the Cosmos (including the domains of Father Time and Mother Nature) looking for Dog Heaven and a place where ill-behaved curs are sent: “Curgatory”. One of Corwin’s most appealing stories, it reveals his deep understanding of things like boys, dogs, bureaucrats, and harpies. Technorati tags: , , , , ,
