Save the date for live music!

Jay Ungar & Molly Mason Family Band
Sunday, June 1, 7:30 PM
Playhouse on the Green
177 State Street, Bridgeport
Jay Ungar & Molly Mason are extraordinary musicians. If you didn't know it before, you sure did after Ken Burns' The Civil War hit the airwaves. Their performance of Jay's haunting composition Ashokan Farewell — the musical hallmark of the PBS series — earned the couple international acclaim. Of course Ashokan Farewell is only part of the story.
The Jay Ungar & Molly Mason Family Band features Jay, Molly, Jay's daughter Ruth Ungar Merenda, and her husband Michael Merenda. You may know Ruth and Mike Merenda from their band, The Mammals. Ruth Merenda cut her teeth on traditional music, and grew up to be a top-flight performer. She brings fiddle, ukulele, guitar and deeply moving vocal performances to the Family Band. Mike Merenda favored rock and ska before being drawn into the world of acoustic music. He adds old-time banjo, guitar and percussion to the mix.

Binnie Klein interviews Andrea Ray

10:30 a.m. - Binnie Klein Binnie interviews NYC-based artist Andrea Ray, about her three-part multi-media installation at Wesleyan University's Center for the Arts, inspired by the 40th anniversary of the May 2, 1968 student uprisings in Paris. The piece, called Desire, reflects "a repetitive search for things seemingly unattainable--a complete understanding of war, an experience of productive social change through protest, and an association with an effective community. As its title might suggest, Ray's work ruminates on desire, on the state of wanting and lack." Technorati tags: ,
